2062 - WILLIAM MERRITT CHASE (NY/CA/IN, 1849-1916)
SOLD: $45,000

Shore Path with Berry Pickers and Walking Figure, Shinnecock Hills, Long Island; oil on mahogany panel, signed lower left, housed in a replica gold Impressionist matched corner frame. Figures possibly are those of Mrs. William M. Chase (Alice Gerson) and their two daughters, OS: 14 3/4" x 18 3/4", SS: 10 1/4" x 14 1/4". Very good condition. Signed in artist's hand and inventory numbered, with size by Vose Gallery verso. Includes the original 1949 receipt from Robert C. Vose of Boston.

"After the Storm", oil on canvas, signed lower right, depicting a crew in the longboat escaping their foundering savaged ship in a very rough sea, but with a schism in the clouds revealing golden light, representing hope; the painting housed in a substantial, magnificent deep cove many ranked gilt gesso frame, OS: 29" x 40", SS: 13 1/2" x 24 1/2". Cleaned and revarnished, repaired puncture just above the longboat, reinforced canvas edge on original stretcher, some loss to frame.
2224 - JACINT RIGAU-ROS I SERRA (CATALAN) AKA HYACINTHE RIGAUD (FRANCE, 1659-1743)

Life-sized Portrait of a Gentleman who bears a strong resemblance to Sebastien le Prestre, Marquis de Vauban, 1633-1707, who served as architect to Louis XIV of France for over fifty years, was made Commissioner General of Fortifications in 1678. Rigaud was Painter to the King from 1659 to his death in 1743. Oil on canvas, unsigned. Unframed, with the old artist name tag taped verso, 55" x 41 3/4". Cleaned, very good condition.

New Hampshire Lake at Sunset with single sailboat near close shore, oil on canvas, signed lower right center and dated 1860, housed in the original massive gilt deep cove frame, OS: 42 3/4" x 51", SS: 29 1/2" x 38 1/4". Cleaned and relined.

"View from the Sprague House, Prouts Neck, Maine" (on Bohemia Lane, off Winslow Homer Road), a seascape from the shore, oil on canvas, signed lower left, inscribed "To my friend Sprague" and dated 1905, in the original hand carved gilt matched corner Arts & Crafts frame, OS: 32 1/2" x 37 1/2", SS: 22" x 27". Very good, untouched condition.
3002 - ANDREW NEWELL WYETH (PA/ME, 1917-2009)

'In the Georges Islands', ink drawing on Strathmore paper, signed lower right. and dated 1940. William Macbeth Gallery of NYC label verso, giving title and having a price of $275, with artist's stamp, numbered 'A1148', marked 'D34', Strathmore embossing lower right, in silver leaf cove frame, OS: 24" x 38", sheet size: 14 5/8" x 29", OS: 24" x 38". Fine condition.

"Have a 'Coke' = How are things goin?", or "GI's in Newfoundland", graphite on paper, signed lower right and marked "Sketch", (NCW 1074), label verso from Wyeth Hurd Gallery of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Housed in a later silver molded panel frame, matted and glazed, OS: 27" x 29 1/2", SS: 16 3/4" x 19 1/2". A few bleach spots on edges.

3154 - ANDY WARHOL (NY/PA, 1928-1987)
SOLD: $70,200

"Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup", 1968, serigraph, signed and inscribed on front, numbered #229/250 and signed verso corner, 35" x 23" sheet. Unframed, shrinkwrapped. With letter of provenance. The recipient of this as a gift was Edward Swain III, his note on letterhead reads "05/08/2021; To whom it may concern, The Warhol silkscreen image of 'Campbell's Chicken Soup' was given to me in 1976 by Andy Warhol who inscribed it on the front 'To Ted, Andy Warhol'. This was a 'thank you' gift for a consultation I had with him regarding his collection of American Folk Art then at the Museum of American Folk Art in New York. It hung in my kitchen in Pennsylvania for 20+ years. (signed)." Creator and leading proponent of Pop Art, avant-garde film maker, founder of 'The Factory', the iconoclastic Warhol shook the Art world and general culture with his efforts and writings from the mid 1960s to the 1980s, until his tragically early death at age 58.

Untitled Abstract, oil on linen, signed lower right, in gold molded frame with linen liner, OS: 33 1/2" x 29 1/2", SS: 25 1/2" x 20 1/2". Good condition. Includes export papers from Cuba in 1960, exhibition flyer for show that year "Consejo Nacional de Cultura: Exposicion El Artista a del mes Homenaje a Auguste Herbin, 1 Marzo / 1960". This painting is the only one featured in the flyer.
