THE FRANK COWAN COLLECTION, PATTERSON, NY
Lots 1001 – 1322 | Friday, November 12, 11am

We are pleased to offer the extensive and diverse antique collection of noted New York advertising photographer Frank Cowan (1934-2003). Cowan, whose advertising clients included Volkswagon, Kellogg’s, the U.S. Army, and Levi’s, was a passionate antique collector. Meticulous in his pursuits, he chose only the best examples to complement and enhance his collection.

Frank’s early years of collecting focused on American colonial furniture. Later, annual visits to the U.K. with his wife broadened his interests to include English oak furniture (the forerunner of Pilgrim century design) and needlework, early Chinese ceramics, and Medieval European and Islamic metalwork, all of which were used to decorate his Patterson, NY home.

Presented here are two primary passions. His English furniture collection is featured in lots 1001 - 1095. His Asian collection, which contains pieces representing Chinese culture from pre-1500 BCE through the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), begins with lot 1096.
